In an education reform step, Sikkim’s Education Department has introduced a localized climate-responsive curriculum in mountain schools. Students learn about glacier melting, landslides, biodiversity loss, and climate-resilient agriculture through textbooks co-created with local scientists. Class activities include measuring snow cover trends, constructing rain gauges, and preparing awareness skits in local dialects. Teachers receive special training, and schools hold monthly “Climate Fridays.” Initial feedback shows stronger community participation and intergenerational discussions on environmental adaptation. The state aims to integrate climate learning into middle and secondary schooling by 2026.
